Call for Papers: 2027 Law and Development Conference “Twenty Years of Law and Development Review: Advancing Law and Development Scholarship” Sydney, Australia, June 16–17, 2027 The Law and Development Institute and the University of Sydney School of Law will co-host the 2027 Law and Development Conference. The year 2027 marks the twentieth year of Law and Development Review (LDR), a rare peerreviewed academic journal dedicated exclusively to law and development studies. Since its inauguration in 2008, LDR has published scholarship by distinguished scholars and professionals from around the world and has featured select papers from the Law and Development Conferences since the inaugural conference in 2010. The Conference returns to Sydney seventeen years after its inauguration there, and this return marks both a homecoming and a celebration of nearly two decades of advancing law and development scholarship worldwide through Law and Development Review and the Law and Development Conference series. Against this backdrop, the 2027 Conference will examine the following subtopics: • Artificial Intelligence, Law, and Development • Law and Environmental Sustainability • Law, Governance, and Development • Law and Development under Geopolitical Competition • Law, Development, and Small and Vulnerable States • Law and Development Education and Rising Issues in Law and Development We ask all interested speakers to submit one-page paper abstracts by December 15, 2026. Please indicate the relevant sub-topic in your submission. We expect abstracts, papers, and presentations in the English language. Important Deadlines Abstract Submission: December 15, 2026 Notification of Acceptance: January 15, 2027 Final Selection of Speakers: January 30, 2027 Full Papers Due: May 1, 2027 Please note that all conference papers will be uploaded on the conference website and will be accessible by the general public (with the attachment of appropriate copyright notice). Selected papers will be published in a Law and Development Review Special Issue in 2028. We expect all authors to publish their conference papers, if selected, in the 2028 LDR Special Issue. All speakers and participants are expected to register for the conference and make their own travel arrangements during the conference. In principle, no financial support is available, but a reduced registration fee could be charged to speakers from developing countries and student participants.
